Obituary for Maxine Hancock Mosley

Maxine Hancock Mosley
Maxine Hancock Mosley, age 88 of Apopka, passed away on Wednesday, October 7 in Leesburg, Florida. Maxine was born in Bowling Green, Florida, in 1932 to Uriah Sterling and Minnie Ola Nobles Hancock. Maxine was known by those close to her as a quiet, strong, fiercely independent, generous woman who loved, cared for and provided for her family and friends.
At an early age, Maxine exhibited a strong work ethic, completing her general equivalency diploma through the Marion County School system while working to support her family. She carried her talents to a variety of roles in Florida’s signature industries, including the sawmill industry, fruit processing, paper production, and hospitality. Through these roles, she honed her professional acumen and talents, leading to several small business ventures and eventually, owning her own establishment.
Prior to her retirement, Maxine was proud to serve as proprietor of an Apopka neighborhood country music tavern called Feelgoods, which was a hub of comfort and home of fun. She shared her success in that venture with family and friends over the years, providing opportunity, employment, a cool place to relax, or just a listening ear.
One of her proudest accomplishments was as a protective, supportive mother, raising two children who inherited—and imparted to their own families—her strength and generous spirit.
Maxine is survived by her proud and loving son, Leroy Mosley; her son-in-law, Clyde Jones; brother, Roy (Linda Strickland) Hancock; her niece, Gail Bryant (Kirk Williams); her nephews, Carlton Hancock and Derrick Hancock; five grandchildren: Christi Jones, Jeremy (Kari) Mosley, Candace (Chad) Boeninger, Courtney Jones, and Morgan (Sonya) Mosley; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-laws, Josephine Seward and Maddie Hancock; and longtime friend and companion, Joe McKee. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her devoted daughter, Ramona Karen Bryant Jones, who left us on September 25 of this year; as well as her brothers, Milton Hancock and John Hancock; her best friend and sister, Victoria Bryant Boles; and her former husband, Milton Mosley.
A celebration of life will be held on October 15, 2020 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Lacoochee in Lacoochee, Florida, with Pastor Tony Hoffman presiding. A graveside service will follow immediately at the Lacoochee Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the organization of your choice in honor of Maxine’s life and legacy.
