Obituary for Dana William Cumbie

Dana William Cumbie passed away due to heart failure at the age of 69 on June 24, 2020, in Tavares, Florida.

Dana is survived by his daughter Mistie Michelle Poor, (Loren), his grandchildren, Drake, Marika, Holly, and Morganne; his brother Buna Bishop Cumbie II, (Joanne); and his sister Burnadeane Eileen Day; his nephews Buna, Trajan, Brian, and niece Stephanie, their spouses and children. He is also survived by many extended family members primarily located on the East Coast.

Dana was preceded in death by his son, Christian Adam Cumbie, his father, Buna Bishop Cumbie, and his mother, Mildred Campbell Cumbie.

Dana was a well-traveled man, who was known to others by various names including, Dana, D.W., Will and to his grandchildren he was known as "Poppa D". He was born in Newport News, VA, and spent most of his formative years in Fairfax County, VA. While in the United States Army, he was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska where he met and married the mother of his children, Geraldine Hall (Czarnecki). Dana’s professional careers included four years in the United States Army, law enforcement/corrections, truck driving, car sales, and acting. He spent many years as a primary caregiver to his mother, Mildred, making it a priority to travel and enjoy life together. His passions included traveling, American history, Harley Davidson motorcycles, classic cars, Nascar, and he was a very skilled golfer. Dana never met a stranger. He was able to strike up a friendly conversation with anyone, anywhere and at any time.

Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, in place of a funeral, family and friends are asked to get together in small gatherings and share their favorite memories about Dana (aka, D.W., aka, Will). We also ask for those family and friends to continue sharing stories so the memory of Dana will never fade. For those wishing to pay respects in person, Dana will be honored as a veteran of the United States Army with a place at the Florida National Cemetery, located at 6502 S.W. 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, Florida 33513.
