M. Elizabeth Wingate, age 84, passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2019 in Winter Garden, FL due to complications following congestive heart failure. She was a resident of Florida for the past 47 years, most recently of Windermere.

She was born on March 2, 1935 to Otto and Hilda (Knocke) Henning in the parsonage of the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Holyrood, Kansas, where her father was pastor. She was the youngest of seven children and she lived in the parsonage with her family for 20 years.

She graduated from Holyrood Rural High School in 1953 and entered the Asbury School of Nursing in August of that year and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1956. She married Robert K. Wingate on December 26, 1955 in Holyrood, Kansas. Elizabeth was a wonderful and beloved mother to her children Kimberly, Kelly, and Rob and their spouses. She joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1974 and was sealed to her family in 1976 in Washington, DC Temple. She served in many Relief Society leadership positions and she served as a missionary for the church in Vermont, in the New Hampshire Manchester Mission with her husband, Bob, from 2004 to 2005 and served in the Orlando Temple both before and after their mission.

Her interests included raising and caring for her family, playing piano, and singing in musical and acapella groups and choirs. Her favorite things were spending time with her husband and family, whom she loved deeply. She had many close and dear friends and was a caring and loving member of the communities at The Villages, FL, The Sheridan, and the Leesburg, Belleview, and Avalon wards of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. All her life, she cared for the people around her with love, encouragement and faith.

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Bob Wingate; her daughter Kimberly (Ray) Perry, son Rob (Diane) Wingate, son-in-law Bill Jarvis, grandson Mark (Lana) Singer, granddaughter Stephanie Singer, sister Miriam (Richard) Ludwig, and great-grandson Christian Singer.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Hilda Henning; brothers Vernon, Roland and Robert; sisters Elaine and Marjorie; daughter Kelly Suzanne Jarvis.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 3:00 PM at the Belleview Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 12975 SE 55th Ave Rd, Belleview, FL 34420. A Viewing will be held at 2:00 PM and a burial will follow the funeral at Shiloh Cemetery in Fruitland Park.

The Wingate family would like to extend our gratitude to her many good friends, as well as to those in The Villages and The Sheridan for their attentiveness and care.

Arrangements entrusted to Beyers Funeral Home and Crematory, Lady Lake, FL.
