Obituary for Ted Sawyer
James Theodore “Ted” Sawyer, 83, of Umatilla passed away on Friday, August 04, 2017. He was born December 5, 1933 in Rising Sun, Wood County, Ohio. He grew up in West Milgrove and Bradner. He served in the United States Navy for four years before settling in Port Clinton, Ohio. He followed the family tradition of owning service stations. He lived in Marietta, GA (East Cobb) and Ponte Vedra Beach before moving to Umatilla, Florida in 2010.
He never met a stranger, was friendly, was ready to lend a hand and was always smiling, and loved his friendships and family. He was a longtime fan of golf, baseball, football and basketball. He loved playing golf and was a lifetime member of Indian Hill Country Club in East Cobb County, GA.
He was survived by his loving wife: Barbara Sawyer, Umatilla, FL; son: Adam Sawyer; step-son: John (Allison) Chandler Jr.; step-daughter: Mary Ellen (Mark) Goldstein; grandchildren: Heather Banules, Jason Martin, Chris Martin, Mara Sawyer; and step-grandchildren: Ryan Bleakley, Makenzie Chandler, Carse Chandler and Sarah Goldstein; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Charles and Bernadine Sawyer; brothers: Bud and Larry Sawyer; first wife: Joanne Sawyer; daughters: Kim Star Martin (Sawyer) and Kellie Jean Sawyer.
A memorial was held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, August 7, 2017 at the home of Ted and Barbara.
