Obituary for Lilia Moreland
Lilia Rosalia Moreland (nee Cardenas) born June 28, 1930 left to meet her Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 8, 2017. Lilia was born in Guadalajara, Mexico to the late Isidoro and Maria del Rosario Cardenas and was one of eight children. On a vacation to see her family in Washington, DC she met their next door neighbor, Fritz (Walter) Moreland. While Lilia did not speak English and Fritz did not speak Spanish, they each bought a translation book and a lifetime of romance began. They married a year later. While Fritz was attending Georgetown University, Lilia attended the International School of Washington to learn English and to educate herself about her new country. Fritz and Lilia lived in Rockville, Maryland where she was a member of a fun-loving group of women who did interior decorating. They came to be known (with great affection) as The Fatties! Lilia had many friends who also loved Latin music and she and Fritz spent many weekends dancing until dawn. Fritz and Lilia moved to The Villages in 1998. For many years they danced in the squares. Lilia was known for her beautiful smile and generous kindnesses. A devout Catholic, Lilia loved her family, traveling, dancing, cruises, walking and gardening. She leaves behind to grieve her, Fritz, her devoted husband of 64 years, her son, Michael (Harrogate, UK), his wife, Robin and her cherished grandson, Glenn. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and her many relatives, both in the US and in Mexico. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Lady Lake, FL on Wednesday, May 24th at 8:30 AM, followed by breakfast at Hacienda Hills Country Club. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Cornerstone Hospice 601 Casa Bella, The Villages, FL, 32162.
